The England defender has excel for Palace despite a previous transfer to Anfield falling through. As his deal due to run out in the close season, this represents the club's last opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, including City and several European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. This highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. The 19-year-old is widely expected to make a big-money move in January. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at around £22 million.
